How to use “Protect PDF”

  1. Add one or more PDFs.
  2. Type the password twice.
  3. Click “Protect PDF”.
  4. Download the encrypted PDF: it will ask for the password when opened.

256-bit AES encryption

The PDF is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest method in the PDF format, compatible with Adobe Acrobat, browsers and current viewers. Without the password it can’t be opened or read. The password never leaves your device and we don’t store it: if you forget it, there is no way to recover it.

Are my files uploaded?

No. ShiftAny Files processes your files directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.

Frequently asked questions

What if I forget the password?

It can’t be recovered: ShiftAny Files doesn’t know or store it. Keep an unprotected copy or write the password down somewhere safe.

Can I use accented letters in the password?

Yes. Even so, if you are going to share the PDF, a password with unaccented letters and numbers is the most compatible option across all viewers.

Can I protect several PDFs at once?

Yes. They are all protected with the same password.

What if the PDF already has a password?

Unlock it first with “Unlock PDF” and protect it again with the new password.
